But you may have days where you want to spend time enjoy spaces on your own. Those are the days that you’ve dedicated to rest, exploring or discovering something new. Out of Town Visitors to Denver

For the ladies looking to fly into town I’m going to share some helpful tips for you, then I’m going to share the places that I think you would enjoy while you’re on your solo woman’s retreat!

Where to Stay

Below are a nice mix of hotels and hostels that you can stay at while you’re in town. I’ve picked these because they are well-located, clean, have accessible locations to other amenities, transit and access to rideshare services as well.

Schedule a Fun Tour of Denver

An easy way to meet people while traveling is to participate in a tour. I strongly recommend adding a tour to your solo retreat in Denver for a couple of reasons.

First, can leave the driving to someone else. Especially if you’re looking to experience the mountains and have never driven in the mountains. It is technical driving and not for the faint of heart (especially if there’s still snow on the roads).

There is a massive construction project impact the 16th Street Mall. We have about a year left of this project and I think going on a cocktail, food or similar tour to help you explore downtown will help you better navigate that part of town while you’re here (even if you currently live in Denver)

I’m looking to attend the cocktails and paired bites tour sometime this Spring. For “research” for the website LOL!

Denver’s Weather in April

April is a fun time to visit and explore Denver. It’s “pre-summer’ there are concerts, baseball has started, theater is still in full swing and more. The weather is a little aggressive in April

You need to be prepared.

Denver still receives significant amounts of snow during the month of April. Most Colorado based ski resorts are still open until the second or third week of April.

It’s also weirdly hot at the same time. We get snow and then it melts pretty quickly. The weather is often sunny and the energy of the city starts to pick up as we make our way out of winter.

Itinerary #1-Low-key Solo Retreat

I love going on solo retreats. I’ve put together a few itineraries that may be a great way to begin the planning phase of your retreat.

Day #1

Today you’re just going to ease in to your solo retreat and wander around town. In order to get around you can walk, use public transit, ride share or rent a car.

  • Wake up naturally-If you don’t have kiddos it’s a beautiful thing. If you do have kiddos, it’s a beautiful thing.
  • Time for breakfast. I’m sharing three different options.
    • Head over to WONDER Press on Platte for some fresh juice, coffee and breakfast.
    • Onefold-If you like congee, they serve it!
    • Brunch at Mimosas in Five Points
  • Check out 41st and Tennyson-Throughout the city of Denver there are really cute micro business districts and this is one of them. They are cute, bustling spaces that typically are a hub for the neighborhood located adjacent to it.
  • Convivio Cafe for coffee or tea. This coffee shop is one of my favorite spaces in Denver.
  • Walk around Sloan’s Lake
    • This is my favorite large park in Denver. It just edged out Wash Park and what I like about it is the view of the mountains and how large the lake is compared to other parks in town.

Now that Day #1 is over, journal, relax and get some rest.

Day #2

In order to keep things simple, grab lunch at your hotel, wear some comfortable clothes and make your way over to Izba Spa a Russian Banyan spa where you can pamper yourself with a truly unique Russian spa experience.

Once you’re done, head over to lunch at Le French on 9th and Colorado Boulevard. It’s a beautiful space with a great menu. Le French also happens to be a 2024 James Beard regional semi-finalist (foodies will be excited about this.) You can eat inside or on the patio if it’s warm enough to do so.

Head back to the hotel to freshen up, drop things off and head over to Meow Wolf. I absolutely love Meow Wolf-it’s an interactive, art experience that is so much fun to make your way through. Be prepared to touch, listen, look and more while you’re experiencing the space. There’s even a cocktail bar that you can enjoy a drink at afterwards called “Sips (with a Z)”

How to Connect with People

There are a number of ways that you can connect with people while in town. I do want to emphasize that you must always think about how to be safe in new spaces. If you feel uncomfortable or something is off-it is. Period. Also, always tell people where you are and who you’re with. Yes, this could include the staff at your accommodation and your friends and family at home.

  • Join a Meetup Event-I attended Meetup events in Sydney, Australia here in Colorado and other states. They’re a ton of fun and if they’re large, well-established communities they often have frequent and well-attended and welcoming meetups. Denver’s Meetup groups tend to be pretty active because of all of the people looking to make connections here.
  • Attend a Dance or Fitness Class-I absolutely love taking these hip hop, fitness fusion classes offered at different dance studios in town. Don’t like hip hop? There are so many dance and fitness classes to try out. Ballet, Jazz, yoga and more.
  • Enjoy a Broadway show at the Denver Center for Performing Arts-I’ve side-hustled here and people attend on their own all the time.

Day #3

A trip to Denver would be incomplete without spending some time in the mountains. Head over to Onefold (a few blocks from Union Station) and enjoy a great breakfast before walking over to Union Station to enjoy part of the day in the mountains.

For me, spending time in the mountains is a great way to reset, recharge and reenergize. I love to look for wild animals such as deer, elk, big horn sheep and moose. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll across bears, mountain lions or wolves because groups tend to scare those animals away.

Make sure to pick up some food for your trip from the Whole Foods or King Soopers both located behind Union Station. Whole Foods is a few blocks closer than the King Soopers store. Bring water, nuts, sandwiches, etc. as most tours don’t provide food. Also bring a way to pay for food in the event that you end up heading to a restaurant or other place to pick up food.

Once you’re back from spending time in the mountains, head over to Urban Sanctuary for a rejuvenative and relaxing yoga practice at Urban Sanctuary Yoga.

Finally hungry? Make your way to Denver Milk Market for dinner. It’s a food market with around 12 food concepts to choose from.

Itinerary #2

I thought it might be helpful to share two different 3 day itineraries to draw inspiration from as you work on planning your solo retreat.

Day #1

With this itinerary, you’re going to make your way into nature as a way to start off your retreat. Exploring the mountains while someone else is in charge of driving is a wonderful way to experience Colorado.

  • Wake up around 7:00 am
  • Happy Hour at Ultreia located and Denver’s Union Station. If you love Spanish style tapas-this is the place that I recommend. It’s also conveniently located as most tours pick up and drop off people in front of Union Station.

Day #2

One of my favorite experiences to enjoy with friends and family is “high tea.” Treat yourself to high tea at TeaLee’s in Five Points. You will need to schedule your tea ahead of time.

Then, head over to the Lake Steam Bathhouse on Colfax-Ladies Day. This space has been serving the Denver Metro area for over 50 years. Instead of the Korean Style bathhouse that you may be familiar with, this one is Russian. There’s a eucalyptus steam room and more. Schedule a scrub down and leave all of your stress at Lake Steam.

You may need a nap after spending time at the bathhouse. Then make your way over to Perdida for dinner.

Day #3

This is the final day of your perfect solo woman’s retreat in Denver, Colorado in April. For the beer lovers, no solo retreat would be complete without heading over to Oakwell Beer Spa.

Yes, it’s an actual Beer Spa and people absolutely love the experience! I often give the advice that when you’re visiting Denver you should pick an event to anchor your experience around. For example, maybe there’s a must experience concert, art exhibit, Broadway show, festival or sporting experience that’s happening in Denver that you would like to experience. Day #3 could be the day that you’re enjoying that experience.
