Things to Do in Denver in March

Things to Do in Denver, Colorado in March 2024

Spread the love

One of my favorite months in Denver is March. We get a lot of snow but it’s typically warm, sunny and so much fun. There are local festivals to be enjoyed, we’re moving towards the playoff season for NBA (let’s go Nuggets!) and for the NHL (let’s go Avs!) and the Broadway tours coming in during the month of March are always amazing.

What I especially love about March in Denver is its unpredictability. You may get crazy heat or there may be an epic spring storm that brings in 3 feet of snow and the city gets shut down for days. There are so many things to do in Denver, Colorado in March that you’ll find yourself overwhelmed with choices. I’ve picked some of the standout events to check out and support below.

Some Tips About Denver During the Month of March

There are some things to watch out for if you’re planning on visiting Colorado during the spring weather season. March is one of the snowiest months of the year. In fact, some of the biggest snow storms that I remember happening here have typically occurred in March. I’m sharing this to say that travel disruptions could occur and that you need to plan for the possibility of these happening.

  • Weather Delays-Don’t expect things to shut down because it’s snowing. Oftentimes we’ll delay or postpone the times for an event. Make sure that you triple-check event or venue details on snow days.

Make Sure to Book a Tour

Leave the planning to someone else. A tour is a pressure free way to explore Denver and the surrounding areas. If you live in Denver, you can also book a tour!

Avoid rush hour traffic, driving in the snow or having to navigate in a new location and all the stress that is a part of visiting parts of town are unfamiliar to you.

I’ve shared a few tours that would be great for this time of year!

What to Bring

This is the time of year when you absolutely have to think about how changing weather and altitudes will impact what you need to pack for your trip.

March’s weather in Denver is a bit…aggressive and fun all at the same time. There are days when it’s incredibly warm, other moments when there’s crazy snow and if you stand in the shade you’ll freeze today. You have to prepare for everything.

You’re going to need to wear and bring layers. If you plan on hiking you’ll also need to bring some gear or get some gear while you’re in town.

Puffy Jacket

Beanie

Collapsable water bottle

Lip balm

Swimsuit

  • You need a swimsuit for hot tubs or hot springs!

Lotion

Sunblock

Hat

Sunglasses

Always remember to bring your bathing suit! Especially if you’re spending any time in the mountains during your Denver based visit.

Book That Ski Trip

Now that we’re making our way into the heart of spring it’s a perfect time of year to go skiing. If possible try to head up to the mountains on quieter days and avoid driving the I-70 corridor on Fridays and Sundays-horribly busy days on the road.

If you haven’t planned a ski trip before I’ve shared some posts below that will help you with plan things out.

Things to do in Denver, Colorado in March

There are so many activities to enjoy while you’re in town. If you live here and are having a hard time wrapping your head around what there is to do, Denver is back to pre-COVID shenanigans so there’s a lot to choose from.

What About the 16th Street Mall

That project is still being worked on and currently looks to be completed at the end of the year. Downtown Denver, despite this, is incredibly busy. Because, there are streets downtown than just 16th Street. I will say that I spend a lot of time downtown and have begun noticing new retail businesses occupying what were empty store fronts due to the COVID shutdowns.

There’s plenty to do and I find that west of the May D & F Clocktower is vibrant, active and has a lot to do right now. Please continue supporting the businesses in that business corridor.

Culture/Theater and Comedy Events

I’ve tried to pick a nice mix of unique events happening during the month of March. Some are date night, friends night focused. Others are family friendly. Which events below have caught your eye?

  • Cebollas-Singleton Theater-1/26/2-24-3/10/2024
    • Denver Center for the Performing Arts
  • Space Explorers-The Infinite Immersive Experience 2/3/2024-5/5/2024
    • Stanley Marketplace

I’m very excited about seeing Cebollas at the Denver Center for Performing Arts.

Concerts Coming to Denver in March

The past couple of years have shown that Denver is now a serious live music city. The amount of musicians adding Denver to their tours has been amazing to see. What I particularly love is that the acts are across musical genres.

This also means if you’re thinking about visiting Denver you could anchor your trip around a concert and some other cool event. Unless it’s Drake. He’s cancelled on his fans twice and I’m not sure if I believe he’ll show up in April. I said what I said.

Is there a concert that you think I should add to this list?

Unique Denver Foodie Experiences in March

  • SAME Cafe-SAME Table Annual Celebration and Fundraiser
  • Denver Ramen Festival-3/23/2024-Denver Stockyards
    • I’m very excited about this event but I really, really hope that the planners have a number of giant heated tents for it. If we’re going to get a major snowstorm…this week is often when one would happen. Also, I want to attend and eat my weight’s worth in ramen.

Mountain Fun

I’m of the opinion that you haven’t truly experienced Colorado until you attend one of many unusual local festivals. I’ve included two of my favorites below and encourage you to click the links to learn more about them. Hope to see you at one of these events!

Sports Events in Denver this March

Denver is a sports town. We are one of a small number of US cities that have professional teams in the following national leagues: basketball, baseball, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse and rugby (yes, rugby). And typically our teams are pretty competitive within their leagues.

Basketball

Ball Arena is conveniently located in downtown Denver. You can hop on the light rail at Denver’s Union Station and get off at the next stop. You could literally walk over to it, use a scooter (don’t recommend) grab a pedicab or ride share. My point? Ball Arena is super easy to get to if you’re staying in a hotel in Denver’s city center. Denver Nuggets vs. New York Knicks-3/21/2024

I think there are 7 or 8 Nuggets home games in March I just picked a few games that I thought people would be really excited about.

Hockey

The Colorado Avalanche are kicking butt this year. It’s going to be a lot of fun watching their post season run (fingers crossed) definitely catch this game if you get a chance to. There are other matches happening this month but I wanted to point out this particular match up.

Professional Soccer

Let’s be clear. Major League Soccer has a designated season. The problem? Denver and Salt Lake City have problematic weather during the month of March. Which is why I’ve added the question “Will it snow?” after after every single match. Triple-check the weather before you head out to watch a match. These matches are a lot of fun by the way. And every time the Rapids scores a goal they fire a cannon.

Miscellaneous Sporting Events

There are a couple of sporting events that I’m VERY excited about and I’ve shared them below. The DU Pioneers gymnastic meet is #1 on my list of sporting events to attend after Denver Nuggets games in March. I’m really looking forward to the energy of a sold out (hopefully) gymnastics match.
