Best Weeks to Visit Denver, Colorado in June for Black Visitors

Spread the love

I have a theory that there are a couple of different ways to visit a place. There’s going there and hoping for a whimsical experience-these are some of my favorite trips. Then there are business trips that typically are too rigid and never seem to tell the full story of a place because you’re almost always trapped inside the host city’s convention center. Holiday trips are the best. But for Black visitors to cities that are new to them, visiting during certain events makes for an even better experience. June is in my opinion the best month for Black tourists to Denver during the summer because of all of the activities in town. Here are the best weeks to visit Denver, Colorado in June for Black visitors and some additional suggestions for a visit in 2026.

Best Weeks to Visit Denver, Colorado in June

Hands down, the month of June is one of the absolute best times to visit Denver as an African-American visitor. There are so many things to do both free and paid, the summer season hasn’t hit its peak yet and June is a great time for a road trip around the state or to surrounding states in the Rocky Mountain West Region. From Wednesday, June 17th through June 30th, 2026 there’s so much to do in town that visitors will find themselves having a hard time deciding what to say “yes” and “no” while here.

For those of us who live here it’s an awesome time to hang out, be seen and just embrace the lifestyle that Denver is known for but from a Black lens.

Remember to Book Your Flights ASAP

If you’re planning to fly into town, don’t forget that the US is dealing with an oil crisis which directly impacts the price of your flights. Book your tickets ASAP so that you can lock in the most affordable deal that you possibly can. I admit that I’m a lifelong fan of Frontier which is a Colorado based company. It also helps that I’m short so I don’t have to pay for extra leg room on flights. The price for flights will keep going up until this oil crisis is resolved and that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon.

Book A Tour

I love to plan my trips but sometimes it’s great to leave the planning to someone else. There are a number of tours that I recommend to explore Denver and other parts of Colorado. These are great experiences that let you enjoy the view without dealing with mountain driving and all of the stress that comes with driving out of state. Below are a few of my favorite tour suggestions.

Here’s my top 7 Best Denver, Colorado Tours Focused on Food and Drink. Denver isn’t known as a food city even though there is good food here. You can listen to the following short podcast episode about Denver’s Food Scene for insight into what’s going on with the food here, what to prepare for and why I almost always eat great food when I go out.

Black Business Shout Out: Museum for Black Girls

Wednesdays are a great day to start your Denver visit. Most businesses are open, there’s stuff to do and typically the hotel prices are a little lower because it’s not the weekend yet. I love recommending the Museum for Black Girls which is located at the Denver Pavilions on 16th Street. If you’re thinking about visiting make sure to look at the events schedule. They have activities such as Yoga and Wine, brunch and more. These activities change each month.

If you like food trucks and eating outside, then also make your way over to Civic Center Park about 5 blocks away from the Museum to eat lunch at Civic Center Eats. This is one of my favorite low-key summer time activities.

Black Business Shout Out: Tea Lee’s Tea House and Bookstore

If you’re looking for a warm tea room experience, Tea Lee’s is where I’m sending you. This is a space where you linger, chat and hang out out over a lovely pot of tea. You could even book a high tea and then head over to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Broadway Musical) which will be in town until the end of June.

Black Business Shout Out: Trybal African Speakeasy

For fans of baseball, there are two baseball back-to-back series during this week. Watch the Colorado Rockies vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field. Don’t like baseball? Make your way over to Levitt Pavilion and enjoy The Circuit Summer Kickoff Munchies Fest (purchase tickets before you go)

Saturday, June 20, 2026-JUNETEENTH

Black Business Shout Out: Fifth Coffee House

One of my favorite things to do in town is to visit the many different coffee shops that we have across the city. Fifth Coffee House is one of my favorite shops. Make sure to try the Blacker the Berry signature matcha drink. Absolutely, delicious especially on a warm day. This day will be busy because it’s Juneteenth Weekend. Denver has had an official Juneteenth celebration since the 1950’s. This may surprise some people but when you look at the map of the U.S. you’ll see that Colorado used to touch Texas (before the change in Oklahoma’s boarder-that’s a conversation for another day).

You’ll be in the heart of Juneteenth celebrations and it’s almost always HOT AF this weekend. Plan accordingly. This year’s musical artist is SIR and I’m really looking forward to it.

Black Business Shout Out: Mimosas

Brunch is where things get started. Head over to Mimosas or Whittier Cafe for brunch. If you’re a baseball fan, you can catch another Colorado Rockies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game or you can check out the Juneteenth Hop around Five Points. Today also happens to be one of the best community driven events in Denver-Vibes in the Park. No Shenanigans, just a good time. You can also end the day at Spangalang Brewery with some nice brews and good vibes.

Monday, June 22, 2026-SINNERS at Red Rocks Amphitheater

Black Business Shout Out: Eastside Espresso

Mondays are a lazy day in Denver. One of my absolute favorite Denver coffee shops is Eastside Espresso an Ethiopian-Woman owned coffee shop that also has FUL on the menu. Delicious. Head over there for coffee, read a book or hangout at a rooftop pool using ResortPass. The only other activity/experience that you should be thinking about on this day is heading to Red Rocks to watch Sinners at Film on the Rocks. I watched Black Panther with a sold out crowd of 9,000 people under a full moon at Red Rocks and it was magical. My thought is that watching Sinners at Red Rocks will be just as magical. Get your tickets ASAP-I think it will sell out. Red Rocks is considered one of the best outdoor venues in the world. There will also be a band prior to the film.

Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Black Business Shout Out: Saucy’s Southern BBQ

Hopefully you’ve slept in and are waking up late on Tuesday. Make your way over to Saucy’s Southern BBQ for a nice meal before heading over to Coors Field to watch the Colorado Rockies play the Boston Red Sox. Or, you could book a tour to the mountains-a great idea because visiting the mountains on the weekends can be really stressful.

Black Business Shout Out: TK’s Surf and Turf Kitchen

Plan a day trip to one of the following spots:

  • Breckenridge, Colorado-You can book a tour to do this or if you’re comfortable taking transit, you can take the Bustang to Frisco and then transfer to the free Summit Shuttle to Breckenridge. Spend the day explore Breckenridge, Colorado which is continues to be my favorite mountain town to share with Black tourists.

  • Boulder, Colorado-This is an easy spot to visit. You can take the FF1 bus from the Union Station RTD bus terminal (it’s below ground) the ticket is $5.50 roundtrip and you can even go hiking in Chautauqua Park if you’re familiar with hiking and following trails.

  • Idaho Springs-Take the Bustang from the Union Station Bus terminal and then get off at Idaho Springs. One of the newest attractions to check out is the Argo Gondola. I think it’s expensive but it could be a fun treat with beautiful mountain views.

Black Business Shout Out: Welton Street Cafe

Drop in for a yoga class at Urban Sanctuary Yoga Studio. Then head over to Welton Street Cafe for lunch. Check out 16th Street and then make your way over to one of the following neighborhood streets to shop, eat and chill

You could also head to one of Denver’s iconic parks: City Park, Washington Park or Sloans Lake before heading to a place for lunch or dinner.

Friday, June 26, 2026-Chris Brown and Usher R&B Concert Tour Kickoff

Black Business Shout Out: Catfish King

Initially, I was a bit surprised that Usher and Chris Brown were kicking off their tour at Denver’s Empower Field (where the Denver Broncos play) then I remembered that both of their tours basically sold out in the past year. I have a lot of thoughts about the broader implications of R&B artists finally visiting Denver. If you’re a fan, here’s a link to a post on how to plan for the event, where to stay and more.

Saturday, June 27, 2026-Mo Betta Green Marketplace (Farmer’s Market)

Black Business Shout Out: Konjo Ethiopian (Fast Casual)

One of my absolute favorite things to do during the summer is to head to a farmers market. Denver has a crazy farmers market scene and one of my absolute favorites is Mo Better Green Marketplace. This Saturday is their official summer launch date. It’s tiny, warm and inviting. There’s typically a dj, dancing or yoga and fresh pressed juice. Out of all of the farmer markets in Denver, it’s one of the few that maintains that perfect farmers market feel-it’s also owned and operated by a Black woman who is an absolute treasure to Denver community.

Sunday, June 28, 2026-Denver PRIDE

Black Business Shout Out: Ruby’s Good Shoes

Denver hosts one of the largest PRIDE events in the United States and Sunday, June 28, 2026 is that day. This year the event has been shifted to 16th Street and it will absolutely be an amazing time.
