Things to Do in Denver in July

Things to Do in Denver, Colorado in July 2023

Spread the love

Denver is a great city to experience all year around, but summer is a particularly amazing time to enjoy it. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor you’ll find yourself overwhelmed by all of the amazing activities and events to be enjoyed. July is coming up and it’s one of my favorite months of the year in Denver. If you’re on the fence about visiting Denver this July, I’m sharing some of the cool events that are happening this July.

Book Your Trip ASAP

Don’t already live in Denver? Traveling into town, Denver is popular so make sure to make your travel arrangements now.

  • Book your flight now. July is the high season for travel and ticket prices are going up.

What to Bring

Free Transit

During the months of July and August 2023, the Zero Fare For Better Air initiative will be happening. What exactly is it? It’s a free transit initiative that will be happening across the entire state of Colorado. Not all cities participate in it, but many cities do-including the big one Denver! I love this initiative. The goal is to encourage people to use public transit, remove the cost barrier AND better our air quality at the same time.

Now that people across the US have experienced what it’s like to have bad air days due to wildfires-you’ll understand why this is such an important initiative. But, I also consider it to be a huge financial policy as removing the expense of transit from people’s budgets for a couple of months. If you’re staying downtown you can take the bus or train around town. There’s also paid options during that time such as: Lyft/Uber, those damn scooters and pedicabs.

Bustang to the Mountains

If you’re looking to take the bus to the mountains then you will use the Bustang or Pegasus service. I absolutely love this service and use it often because I officially hate driving into the mountains during the peak seasons. There are so many out of state drivers who aren’t used to mountain driving, tons of RVs and large rigs on the road. I love leaving the driving to Bustang. Last year during the Zero Fare for Better Air Campaign Bustang had discounted fares so keep an eye out for that as well. If you don’t have enough time to navigate taking transit into the mountains from Denver there’s another option.

Sign Up for a Mountain Tour

Sometimes it’s just nice to leave the driving and other logistics to someone else. A trip to Denver isn’t complete without heading up to the mountains. One of my favorite mountain towns is Breckenridge and this particular tour will take you to Red Rocks, the Continental Divide and Breckenridge. This is a pretty popular tour so make sure to sign up as soon as possible.

Need to Rent a Car

While I am a HUGE fan of car free travel, sometimes that just not possible or practical. If you’re needing to rent a car, make sure to use Discover Cars. It’s a tool that helps users compare the cost of rental cars at different companies. You can also rent your through car through the Discover Cars platform.

What To Do in Denver this July

There are so many activities and cool events to enjoy during the summer that it can be a bit overwhelming. I’ve decided to share some of the newer and more unique experiences that are new post COVID. In many ways, Denver finally feels like before the pandemic. There’s an energy and fun vibe that I missed and it’s definitely back.

Free or Cheap Community Based Activities

  • ¡Viva Streets Denver!
    • Walk, ride, skateboard, use a scooter and enjoy 3.5 miles of Broadway car free. Hopefully the third time will be the charm and no rain will be forecasted. This is my favorite new Denver event.
  • City Park Farmers Market
    • Pick up fresh fruits and veggies, listen to music and just enjoy the immaculate vibes at the City Park Farmers Market.
  • Denver Cruiser Ride
    • Explore the streets of Denver by bike with 100’s of other cyclists. This is the grandaddy of bike events in Denver and it continues to be so much fun.
  • The November Project
    • Need a challenging and FREE workout while meeting nice people at the same time? The November Project uses the City as your gym. With chapter across the world, the Denver chapter is very active, warm and welcoming.
  • Levitt Pavillion Concerts
    • One of my favorite venues in Denver, Levitt Pavillion hosts free and inexpensive concerts during the warmer months. It also is in Ruby Hill Park where free snowboarding takes place during the winter. Hopefully there will be more snow in Denver next year.
  • City Park Jazz
    • A long-time summer staple, City Park Jazz is a chill and relaxing live music experience hosted every Sunday evening. Enjoy some of your favorite jazz artists in town. Bring a picnic basket.
  • Meetup
    • Denver has an incredible Meetup community. Go to Meetup(dot)com and brows through the different groups and join the ones most aligned with your personal interests. If you’re looking to meet new people, explore the mountains and make connections-I strongly recommend checking out Meetup.
  • Film on the Rocks
    • A couple of times a summer you’ll find me watching a movie at Red Rocks. There is nothing like watching an epic film with thousands of people in an incredible location. Standout movies for this summer:
      • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
      • Top Gun: Maverick
  • Yoga On the Rocks
    • I’m not a morning person, but I do love getting up early to participate in an early morning practice at Red Rocks. There’s something about the stillness of the morning, the space and the uniqueness of a Yoga on the Rocks experience.
  • Summer Sessions (Live Music) Riverfront Park
    • There’s a lot of live music that can be experienced in town. I’m really excited about the Summer Sessions hosted at Riverfront Park which is about 2 blocks behind Union Station.

These are activities that you can just show up at and participate in and are typically free. Two of these activities will require you to have access to a bike or roller skates but if you have friends in Denver-they usually have some gear on them.

Denver Concerts This July

There are a TON of incredible concerts happening in Denver this July. I’ve shared a few of my favorites just in case you would like to purchase a ticket.

  • Zeds Dead
  • Santigold
  • Esperanza Spalding
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Paramore
  • 50 Cent
  • Madonna
  • Cypress Hill with the Colorado Symphony

  • Luke Bryan

Denver Arts and Cultural Events

  • Lawn Concert with Brothers of Brass at the Clyfford Still Museum
  • Fan Expo Denver (like ComicCon)
    • You don’t want to miss this year’s event Trekkies!!

Denver Sports Events in July

What may surprise many people is how much of a sports town Denver is. In fact, I’ve attended 3 Championship parades as a fan: Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche and most recently the Denver Nuggets. The weird thing about July is that it’s the quietest month in Denver for sports events. However there are still two teams actively competing.

Random Things To Do in Denver

  • Drag Brunch at The OG at McGregors Square
    • July 15, 2023
  • Explore the murals in Denver. There are murals throughout the city, but you’ll find a large number in the Five Points/RINO district.
  • Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP)
