Things to Do in Denver, Colorado in July 2024

Spread the love

When I think about July in Denver I think of long sunny days and things slowing down. Oftentimes, summer in Denver means spending as much time as possible exploring the mountains hiking, camping and stargazing whenever possible. Languid is a great word to describe what it’s like to be in Denver in July. There are so many things to do in Denver, Colorado in July 2024 but it’s a little quieter than June.

What is the Weather Like in Denver in July?

One of the questions that I get often is the following “Is Denver hot during the summer?” I must admit that this question used to really surprise me. But, considering the fact that people think Denver is covered in snow all year long-maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised. One thing I would say is that the weather is typically hot but it’s not humid. We don’t get a ton of rain but if it’s going to happen, it will happen in the afternoon.

The Mountains are Calling-Book That Tour

I’m a huge fan of car free travel or cutting your car usage as much as possible. Part of the reason why I’m so passionate about this is the sheer amount of traffic that Colorado deals with throughout the year. It’s especially crazy during the summer. Booking a tour to visit Rocky Mountain National Park, going hiking or other to enjoy other experiences also takes cars off the road. Leave the stress of planning an experience in and around Denver and the mountains to someone else.

Where to Stay

There are different areas in Denver that I recommend staying in: Downtown Denver and Cherry Creek North.

  • Downtown Denver-There are a number of great reasons why you should consider staying in Downtown Denver. There’s the proximity to mass transit, many of the sporting and arts venues are located within a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk from most hotels downtown and it’s a great hub to the city. There’s one big downside-there’s a lot of construction happening in the downtown Denver district. In particular, the 16th Street Mall construction project.

  • Cherry Creek North-This is a wonderful district located around 12 minutes by bus from downtown Denver. People regularly ride their bikes between the two areas. There’s a ton of local stores, restaurants and it’s located across the street from Cherry Creek Mall. During the summer you can also enjoy the Cherry Creek Fresh Market as well on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The only slight downside is that you will rely more on transit to make your way downtown to enjoy different events.

Get that Travel Insurance

Travel is filled with a lot of unpredictability. It’s always a great idea to purchase some coverage in the event that you: go hiking, ride a scooter (don’t do it) fly, drive or do anything during your trip. It’s likely that you should buy some travel insurance coverage. Better be safe than sorry.

Things to Do in Denver, Colorado in July 2024

It’s so wild to me that June often feels like it has 10x more events than July. But, there’s still a ton to do. July is the perfect month to enjoy a delicious meal on a patio, stargaze at Civic Center Park or head to Jazz in the Park. This is the month that you’ll find people heading to higher ground for cooler temperatures and fun adventures in the backcountry.

FanExpo Denver

One of my absolute favorite events of the year is FanExpo Denver. Over 100,000 people gather to celebrate and geek out the different fandoms they belong to. I do hope that the cosplay is better this year because post COVID cosplay has been a bit more subdued than in previous years. Miscellaneous Fun

Because there’s fewer organized events in July, this is a great month to lean into experiencing the many unique and fun spots and community spaces that are in or close to Denver.

  • Denver Cruiser Ride(s)-This longstanding tradition lives on. A couple of times a month huge groups of bike enthusiasts make their way across town. Each ride has a theme and costumes are encouraged.

  • City Park Jazz-Every Sunday evening bring a picnic and enjoy live music.

  • Epic Sky Trek-Imagine a giant jungle gym built for adults. This place is awesome.

  • Manitou Incline-Not for the weak of heart. Literally and figuratively. Listen to the following podcast episode that I recorded a few years ago about my experience making my way up Manitou Incline.

  • Yoga on the Rocks-I look forward to this event every year. If you love yoga and being in an incredibly beautiful outdoor space head to Yoga on the Rocks at Red Rocks on Saturdays.

  • Movies on the Rocks-When was the last time you went to the movie theater? I don’t remember the last time I watched a movie at a regular theater, but I do look forward to watching a movie at Red Rocks. It’s a whole vibe.

  • Denver Urban Skate-Thank you to Denver Urban Skate for giving me an excuse to purchase a pair of roller skates and a helmet so that I roller skate around town with you.

Don’t forget to check out one of the many wonderful local Denver coffee shops around town. They are a great way to experience Denver the way that Denverites actually do.

Festivals

There are significantly fewer festivals during the month of July in Denver. But, the festivals that are happening in July are massive. Be prepared to eat, drink and dance your way through each one of them.

Concerts

One of the best developments in recent years here in Denver is that concerts are FINALLY booking dates in Denver. We now have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to musical genres and artists performing in town. I’m especially excited to attend the Black Opry Review that I was hoping would eventually make its way through Denver.

Comedy and Theater and Movies

One of my all time favorite musicals starts another run at the Denver Center for Performing Arts-Wicked. I’m thinking about picking up a ticket in preparation for watching the movie at the end of the year.

Mountain Fun

There are so many things to do in Denver, Colorado in July 2024 that you may be surprised by how often Denverites head to the mountains. It’s hot AF in July. There’s nothing better than heading for a nice hike, camping trip, or a fun road trip across the state.

Miscellaneous Mini Colorado Road Trips

July is a fantastic month for a Colorado road trip. The only downside is that everyone has discovered this. If you’re a woman planning a solo visit to Denver and would like to add a road trip, this is a great month to do it.

  • Spend a 36 Hours in Breckenridge

  • Head Down to Crested Butte (Wildflower Capitol of Colorado)

See You This July

Pack some layers, a water bottle and your best sunblock. If you’re into chilling out, enjoying hanging out at the park and just having a good time-Denver in July is. a ton of fun.
