In my many travels across the United States, I’ve noticed that there are a number of personality traits that set each region apart. At this time of year, one of the traits that I’m particularly interested in is the importance of supporting local business.
According to The Denver Post (and Yelp) Denver is number three in the nation for great local businesses to support. I would agree. I would also strongly argue that we can attribute much of our local economy’s strength to our support of local businesses.
I love shopping local! There are so many amazing: artisans, chefs, photographers, craftsmen, and the list goes on. Here is my list of Colorado businesses that you should support this holiday season!
Let’s get started!
- Boston Market-Yep, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Boston Market is actually based in Golden! I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the Boston Market team and CEO a few weeks ago and was incredibly impressed! If you are throwing a dinner and hate cooking-Boston Market has your back.
- Craftbelly Paper and Pattern-I recently interviewed Lizzie Greco, founder of Craftbelly, for my podcast Square State. That interview will “drop” soon. Until then, if you’re like me a geek about all things paper goods..click here for your holiday items.
- Red Camper Jam-Or, as fans know it as “Deliciousness.” This jam is legit.
- The Ultimate Guide to Moving to Colorado-This is my guide answering frequently asked questions about Colorado. From Black Friday until Cyber Monday the guide will cost $4.95. This will be the lowest price of the year so get it while it’s on sale!
- Shea-Absolutely lovely person and the shop is lovely too! I was fortunate enough to meet her when she first opened her shop. I am happy to see that it’s still going strong (as it should-it’s awesome).
- Knotty Tie Co-Need a nice tie for the gent in your life? This is the company to buy it from.
- Colorado Ski Chairs-I love these chairs that are made out of repurposed skis.
- I Heart Denver Store-My favorite store for Colorado goods and memorabilia. Random fact, I used to work with Samuel (the owner) at an olive oil shop! I’m super excited to see how successful his project has become.
- Love flowers? So do I! I haven’t used this service yet, but I’m looking forward to it. Send Flower Bombs from Flower Bombers.
- Hazel and Dewey-A shop in the Baker neighborhood filled with stunning European homeware.
- La Lovely Vintage-I love this store. I first learned about this wonderful business at the Denver Flea. There was a lovely vintage camper with great..stuff. Stuff that I wanted to have in my house! Then, one day I was wandering around RINO and discovered that there was an actual storefront. Love this store!
- The Pearl Street Mall (Boulder)-I have a strong sense of nostalgia when I think about the Pearl Street Mall. Even though I find Boulder to be increasingly posh and moving away from its hippy roots, the mall still holds a special place in my heart. Some of my favorite places to go to: Peppercorn, Bramble and Hare, and Wonder Press which makes the most ridiculously good chocolate nut milk I’ve ever had…and yes, I paid a lot and loved every sip. And, a trip to Pearl Street would not be complete without an awesome cup of coffee from Boxcar Coffee Roasters.
- The Denver Central Market-I made the mistake of visiting the DCM the first couple of weeks after it’s opening. It was insanity. But, with good reason, Denver has been searching for and longing for a foodie space like the DCM and judging by its success the DCM has hit a home run. I will just go during off times.
My goal with this post is to create a comprehensive and exhaustive guide to shopping locally across the state of Colorado. If you have suggestions, ideas, or notable products, stores, etc. that you feel should be added to the list, please email me at: coloradoluvhub@gmail.com
