Why Denver is a Great Place to Visit This Fall
I love fall in Colorado. There’s nothing like waking up to cooler mornings, the opportunity to wear cute fall clothes and the frantic energy of summer tourist season finally easing up. Fall, for me, is the time of year where I can sit outside on a patio without roasting to death. Seriously, though, there are so many reasons why Denver is a great place to visit this fall and I’m going to share several of my favorite reasons why.

Take a Tour of the Mountains
I’m personally of the mindset that every Denver visit should include some time in the mountains. For me, fall in the mountains is an especially beautiful time of year. The aspen trees change into beautiful gold and red colors and shimmer in the wind, snow starts dusting the highest peaks and it’s a great time of year to soak in hot springs and hot tubs. It’s one of my favorite times of year. There are a couple of different ways you can head to the mountains.
- Book a Mountain Tour-Unfortunately, tourist traffic is still pretty heavy. Booking a tour of the mountains is a great way to visit the mountains without dealing with the stress of planning, group dynamics if you’re traveling with a group and figuring out where to go and the important scenic points to see. I’ve shared some ideas below.
- Take the Bustang Bus Service to the Mountains-Head to Estes Park, Frisco/Breckenridge or other points in the mountains that you’d like to explore by taking the Bustang service.
- Join a Local Community Group-There are several active, welcoming and amazing outdoors and adventure focused groups that you could reach out to that host fun events throughout the fall. These groups will often provide carpooling as a way to participate in the event (pay your driver)
Go to a Concert
Denver is one of the best music cities in the United States. Before you visit make sure to check out the concert schedule while you’re visiting. Here are a few of my favorite artists and venues they will be performing at this fall (2024)
There are so many incredible concerts making their way through Denver this fall. I thought it would be helpful to share the different artists visiting Denver this fall and the venue they will be performing at below.
Ball Arena
In addition to basketball and hockey, Ball arena also is a music venue hosting different tours throughout the year. I love that it’s located one light rail station after Union Station.
Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater
One of the most popular venues in the entire world, Red Rocks Amphitheater is a beautiful place to enjoy music, yoga and movies.
Mission Ballroom
One of the newer venues on this list, I’ve often heard from diehard concert goers that the Mission Ballroom attendee experience is better than at Red Rocks. I think that it’s a great idea to attend a concert at both venues to make a comparison-make sure to tell me which venue you preferred.
Levitt Pavilion
I love this place so much. Levitt Pavilion is amazing for music lovers who are looking into enjoy music without going broke. There are both free and low-cost concerts that we can enjoy. Probably the most challenging part of enjoying a concert here is the parking.
Coors Field
There’s more to Coors Field than partying hard and watching the Colorado Rockies lose. We now can attend concerts at Coors Field and I can imagine it’s a beautiful experience. If you can, take the light rail or ride share to the park so that you don’t have to worry about parking or enjoying yourself during the concert.
Miscellaneous Artist and Venues
I plan on adding to this list as we get closer to fall. There are a number of smaller venues around town that host a variety of well-known and lesser known artists and experiences. Here are a few events that I think you may enjoy.
Comedy, Theater and a Speaker Series
I’m surprised by how many comedians include Denver on their tours. I feel like the team at Comedy Works is a huge part of why this is the case. If you love comedy and live outside of Denver-definitely should be on your list of places to visit for a quick weekend trip. Here are some of the comedians heading to Denver this Fall.
Speakers
One of my favorite events is the Colorado Speaker Series hosted at Bellco Theater located inside the Colorado Convention Center. Be prepared to walk to get to the venue and have a great view of the stage when you get there.
Experience Unique Local Events
Here are a few of my favorite local events during the fall. Can you guess which event is my absolute favorite Fall experience below?
Enjoy a Delicious Fall Inspired Coffee
One of my favorite things to do is to try the many different seasonal drinks crafted by coffee shops around town. I prefer fall lattes made with real fruit or vegetable purees (sweet potato!) and make a point of trying to figure out which shop makes the best fall latte. Last year I think Weathervane Cafe won the title of having the best fall latte. Denver is a great place to visit this fall for coffee lovers and people enjoy spending time in beautiful coffee shops while people watching and enjoying delicious baked goods. We have a ridiculous number of great shops that have fabulous ambience and people watching to enjoy.
Head to Denver Center for Performing Arts
I’m a huge theater fan and I’ve had the good fortune to watch a ridiculous number of shows at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Located in the heart of Denver, the DCPA is a lovely venue that gives theater goers a wide range of theatrical experiences to enjoy. One of my favorites was a one man show called “Yippee Ki Yay-A Die Hard Parody” It was a Die Hard reenactment and, yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie and that’s when I enjoyed the show. This year I’m particularly excited about the Theater Company productions. These are local productions with mostly Colorado actors. Here are the standout shows that I think you should get tickets to.
Enjoy Your Favorite Fall Sport
Denver is a great place to visit this fall and for sports fans it’s a must visit city. If you love football, basketball, hockey or the tail end of the soccer season add Denver to list of cities to visit. I typically recommend checking to see when your favorite team is playing one of Colorado’s teams.
Regular season play starts around the third week of October for the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche. The Denver Bronco’s regular season begins mid-September.
Denver is a Great Place to Visit This Fall
Denver is a wonderful city to visit during the Fall. The weather is typically still really pleasant, there’s plenty to do and in 2024 we’re finishing a number of large infrastructure projects. I’m so happy to share that because the amount of ongoing construction projects has been a bit overwhelming both for locals and visitors. Now that some projects are beginning to wind down, the experience of Denver is improving for everyone.
