I Used to Hate You, Now I Love You

Spread the love

I’m going to come clean and admit something that a lot of Coloradans who grew up here might be a little reluctant to admit…I used to loathe all of the newcomers to the state.

Especially when I was younger.

Recently though I’ve changed how I feel about all of the new people and even though there are downsides:

  • Crazy traffic
  • Prices going up
  • Homeless in the mountains (and other places)

I cannot deny that there are a TON of upsides to having so much growth in the state. Email me with your list of loves and hates.

This episode of Square State explores those feelings. If you’re from here do you agree? Disagree? What are the upsides and downsides?

Colorado is hard to resist. It offers a lot of things that other states don’t.

It’s such a beautiful state, it’s not too conservative, it’s not too liberal (although some might disagree ha ha), there are enough people to make friends with and go on dates with, there are restaurants, shopping sites, the scenery is gorgeous, a diverse arts scene, etc.

I’ve visited Denver, Durango and Mesa Verde and just want more of the state. =)

You’ve visited some great areas! I really love it and I just hope that all of the new people won’t love it to death.

I’ve lived here since 2000, and I still have to remind myself that I was once a Colorado newbie.

The growth on the Front Range is not without it’s growing pains. I grew up in a town of 5,000, so I’ve never gotten used to Colorado’s Front Range traffic and it’s only gotten worse over the last 16 years.

Several years ago while writing a real estsate article I learned that Colorado was predicted to have a million new people by 2020.

I just tell myself, over and over and over again that that means there will be one million more HeidiTown readers/citizens!

    That’s how I cope with it. 🙂

LOL! For me, it’s sometimes wonderful, overwhelming, awe-inspiring, and I baffling. I have a mix of emotions when I see all of the people coming here. It’s a double-edge sword, but without this influx of energy and people we wouldn’t have all of the amazing things that we do now. Btw, I love your blog!
