The Best Week to Visit Denver, Colorado in April and Why
Before I spill the tea, I want to share a few important details about me. I grew up in Colorado, have lived in both Denver and Boulder, Colorado at different points in my life and I currently live in Denver. I’m endlessly curious about my hometown as it grows, develops and changes on a daily, weekly and annual basis. This lived experience informs the tips that I share with you on Square State Colorado. I’m going to cut to the chase, the fourth week of April 2026 is absolutely the best week to visit Denver and there are a number of reasons why. By the way, April 2026 has 5 weeks in it.

Book a Tour
Before I share the itinerary, I do recommend that you also make sure to book a tour while you’re here. There are so many places to visit such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks. If you’re not planning to rent a car, don’t feel like dealing with mountain driving conditions (a nightmare during the summer and winter) then I strongly encourage you to book a tour with Viator. Leave the driving and planning in their hands.
What’s April Like in Denver, Colorado
Spring in Denver is a bit deceptive. The April is the second snowiest month in Denver following March which is the snowiest month in town. Before you freak out there are few things you need to know about what the weather is really like at this time of year. Most days are really sunny with gorgeous blue skies and a crisp chill in the air. The snow lingers a little longer than during other times of the year but if we have a couple of warm enough days, the snow will melt quickly.
What to Wear
Denver, at times, can be painfully casual. Partly because residents are often about to run, walk, hike or do some random physical feat around town. What to wear can confuse visitors and I’m going to break it down how to prepare for this time of year.
- Bring layers-You will find yourself adjusting your clothes throughout the day and depending on the altitude that you’re at. If you go to the mountains-the colder you’ll be. However, it can warm and cold throughout the day in Denver. Suggestions on what to bring to wear.
- Sweaters
- Fitted tops
- One cute going out outfit with a heavy coat.
- You don’t have to wear heels unless you want to .
- Comfortable stylish shoes
- Sneakers
- Boots
- A beanie
- Workout clothes for an indoor activity
- Workout shoes
- Workout clothes and a coat for an outdoor activity-Your local friend is highly likely to have you out in nature doing something.
- A TINY purse–If you’re going to Ball Arena or any other local venue that has security screenings, you’ll need to carry a TINY bag or a clear bag depending on the venue. I’m talking about a bag so small all it fits is your phone, keys and lip balm.
What to Do in Denver During 420 Week
Ok, I’m going to be candid and say that “the ganja” “Mary Jane” etc. is not something that I indulge in. So you may be amused by the fact that 420 week in Denver is THE best week to visit during the month of April. To deny this would be to be in denial. It’s a wildly fun time to be in town. There are some details to be aware of before arrival:
- Reserve your accommodation a little earlier than you think you should. A lot of people come into town for the different events happening at that time of year.
- If you’re “about that life” I recommend Simply Pure Denver Dispensary-Great location and close to downtown Denver.
- Use ResortPass to soak in a hot tub-If you book a hotel that doesn’t have this amenity, ResortPass is a great way to do enjoy this. I love going to CatBird Hotel, Halcyon or even somewhere in the mountains.

Where to Eat
This post is already getting a little long. What I will say is that there is good food in the city of Denver. There are a few things about the Denver food scene that may surprise you in 2026.
- Sushi is actually really good in Denver
- We have great Mexican food in town.
- Baked goods are fantastic in town. Find a fabulous bakery and stuff your face with yummy goodies.
- There’s great African food in town, especially Ethiopian food.
- If you love eating elevated Asian food, Denver has a number of incredible restaurants to choose from.
You may find yourself traveling beyond downtown Denver to enjoy different restaurants and cool food concepts around town. I definitely encourage you to crowdsource ideas on Threads while you’re here. Denverites love giving you in the moment tips.
Coffee Shops to Enjoy
I firmly believe that Denver is currently the #1 coffee city in the United States. I love the variety of coffee concepts, quality of coffee and community that has connected through a true love of coffee. Here are a few great locally owned coffee shops to visit if you live in Denver or are in town for a quick visit.
These shops are a mix of Filipino style, Mexican, 1950’s aesthetic and a vigorous nod to a love of music. All of these shops have great quality coffee, ambience and fantastic speciality drinks.
Where to Stay
There are some fantastic hotels and hostels around town. I’ve shared 7 of my favorite properties to stay at while you’re visiting Denver. I like their proximity to Union Station, 16th Street and other points that are fairly close to downtown Denver.
The Best Week to Visit Denver, Colorado in April and Why
No, April isn’t a hot time of year in Denver but it’s a beautiful time to visit. I love that the weather is changing, hardcore skiers can still find some slopes to shred and you can unironically soak in a beautiful hot springs and enjoy some time outdoors.
The city isn’t overrun with tourists and it’s busy enough around town without it feeling overwhelming or too stressful (as long as you’re not driving to much while you’re here)
